What is Pool Plastering?

If your home in Orange has an in-ground pool, you’ll know that proper maintenance is crucial for the safety of your family and the appearance of your home. Years of use, harsh weather, chemicals, and sunlight all affect your pool’s plaster and cause eventual wear and tear. Cracked surfaces in your pool plaster can also increase the risk of injury while enjoying your pool. Therefore, when your plaster starts to form cracks, stains, and chips, you’ll want to consider pool replastering.

What is pool plaster?

Pool plaster is the final coating applied to the shell of a concrete pool. The plaster adds a watertight seal to ensure that no water seeps behind the pool’s shell. If this occurs, it could result in water damage and more extensive property damage. Plaster is made of a mix of white cement or marble aggregate and water. Plaster is most often white, but it can be tinted other colors if desired.

What’s involved in pool replastering?

Over time, signs of discoloration, cracks, stains, or jagged areas can start to present themselves. If this occurs, it’s time to think about pool replastering. Our team begins the pool plastering process by draining the pool and removing any loose plaster. They will then sand down all the rough edges to create a smooth and uniform surface. An acid wash and bond coat follow sanding and then is finished with two applications of plaster about ¼ to ½ inch thick. Once the pool has been plastered, we coat it with several layers of pool paint and allow it to dry before refilling it.

How much does pool replastering cost?

The average pool size is 16’ x 33’ x 4’ deep at the shallow end and 8’ deep at the deep end. That’s a total of 1,116 square feet for the average pool in Orange. The average cost to replaster per square foot is around $4.50-$6.00. By investing in the quality of your pool, you increase the value of your home and of your family time. Providing long-term sustainability will save you hundreds of dollars over the years and give you peace of mind.
