5 Steps to Pool Refurbishing in Laguna

Before you cover up your pool for the off-season, consider refurbishing. Fall and winter is the best time to resurface your pool in Laguna because it’s too cold to use the pool. There’s also no rush for contractors to finish before the warm weather hits in the spring and summer. The process of refurbishing and refinishing pools is simple and usually takes less than a week to complete. Here at So Cal Pool Plaster, refurbishing pools is a 5 step process.

Step 1: Empty the Pool

The first step to any pool refurbishing project is to empty the pool water with a submersible pump. Once the water is drained, we’ll remove any debris such as leaves or twigs, and powerwash the pool to remove any dirt or grime. Once the pool is empty and clean, we move on to preparing the surface!

Step 2: Prep the Surface

To prep the pool for refurbishment, we first need to repair. If there are any holes or cracks in the pool surface, we’ll fill it up with a specific pool patching, depending on the type of pool. The pool surface will then be sandblasted to reveal the underlying concrete foundation of the pool. This stripping process is necessary because it will hold the new material better. The process can take a couple of days depending on the size of the pool.

Step 3: Prime the Surface

The next step is to prime the surface using epoxy paint. Each coat of paint may take 2-3 hours to paint and dry, and we will typically have 3-4 coats. Epoxy paint is inexpensive yet durable, a strong sealant, and easy to reapply when needed.

Step 4: Apply the New Finish

After the stripping process is completed and the epoxy is dry, we will apply the new pool finish. Depending on what pool finish our clients want, and the details, applying the pool finish may take 1-3 days. We offer a variety of finishes and colors, including plaster, StoneScapes, and Finest Finish Blends. To learn more about the options, check out our pool finishes blog.

Step 5: Clean Up and Fill the Pool

Once the pool is dry, it’s time to clean up and fill the pool! Depending on the type of finish, the pool may need a few days to dry. It’s important to let the surface dry entirely. Refilling the pool too soon could lead to further damage.

Depending on the size of the pool and the details of the pool finish, refurbishing your pool may have additional steps to bring the vision to life. However, regardless of the extra steps, pool refinishing typically takes 1-2 weeks to complete. Are you ready to refurbish your pool and to create an outdoor oasis for your Laguna home?
